Matt O’Kane Leads Information Security Leadership for Government Course at UNSW Canberra

Ten government leaders recently completed an information security leadership program developed by Matt O’Kane from Notion Digital Forensics and delivered through UNSW Canberra. The curriculum underwent more than twelve months of development before launch.
The course emphasized practical cyber defense methodologies by examining high-profile public breach incidents and exploring contemporary response tactics. Among the participants, fifty percent held direct positions in government cybersecurity roles.
Participants engaged with actual breach scenarios throughout the program, working to identify prevention and response approaches. The initiative aimed to strengthen leadership competencies regarding cyber resilience, organizational culture, and threat mitigation across government organizations.

- Jim Boughton addressed cyber frameworks and organizational strategy
- Dr. Catherine Mulligan from Imperial College London discussed emerging strategic cyber challenges
- Ross Sardi, founder of First Focus, examined approaches to managing high-performing technology teams in enterprise settings
- Marcus Alexander from Syconic Cyber contributed specialized expertise
UNSW Canberra’s executive education division, featuring team members Fleur, Nadean Mamic, and Jessica, supported the course delivery. Attendees represented organizations throughout Australia.
